Sealing My Stone

Why do I need to seal my stone?

It is recommended that you seal your stone to protect it from stains and water being reabsorbed. Since mineral surfaces are quite porous they absorb liquids, which may result in discoloring and staining. Although there are many commercial grade products available on the market which may bring the stone to its original luster, taking simple precautions and regular maintenance can save a lot of trouble and cost. All marble and granite tops in our shop are sealed before they are installed.

How often do I need to seal my stone?

If you sealed your stone with our sealers and have maintained it with our daily cleaners your sealer should last up to 3-5 Ceramics are generally made with red-clay based ceramic and have a color screened top. The screening is often 1-4 patterns repeating throughout the batch. Ceramic tiles are less dense than porcelain and are more likely to chip or break once installed.

What if the stone is NOT sealed?

If the stone is not sealed and becomes stained, you have three options:

1. Do nothing and live with the stain;
2. Replace the damaged stone;
3. Hire a professional to attempt to remove the stain

The cost of sealing is a fraction of the expense required to restore a damaged, stained area. Professionally applied sealer ensures the maximum protection for your stone.

Will sealing prevent all stains?

Sealing will NOT prevent the marble of getting stained from acidic spills. Stone can also become stained from absorbing liquids from below, although this is less common than top-side spills.

What do I do if I already have a stain?

If the stain is a concern, then you will want to remove the stain BEFORE sealing the floor. If you seal the floor with the stain in place it will be there forever sealed into the stone. Our professionally trained cleaners will remove all stains for you.
